Phonics in KS1 (Year1/2)

Phonics is taught in mixed ability classes following the Little Wandle programme of teaching. There are five lessons per week and levelled phonics reading books will be sent home using Big Cat Collins ebooks.

At the end of Year 1, children will be assessed on their phonics knowledge, through the ‘phonics screening check’. If any Year 2's who did not pass the check when they were in Year 1, they will get the opportunity to retake the test the following June. Please see the below link for some more guidance in regard to the phonics screening check.
If you have any questions about this please come in and talk to us, more information will be sent out as we approach the phonics check.
