Welcome to Year 1/2

We are really looking forward to getting to know you all and work with you and your families.

In Year 1/2, we have three classes:

Mrs Davies' Class

Mrs Barnes' Class

Mrs Willis' Class

During your time in Year 1/2, you will learn an exciting range of topics including:

 - Let's Go on Safari (Geography)

 - Castles (History)

 - Exciting Experiments (Science)

 - Aboriginal Art (Art)

 - Teddy Bear's Picnic (Design and Technology)

We look forward to sharing our work with you through photographs on the website and on Dojo.

Just a few reminders:

 - Snack is provided free each day, but you may send in a fruit based snack.

 - Lunches are provided for all Year 1/2 children (there is no need to bring a packed lunch)

- Children are to be dropped off at 8.40am at the Windsor Close Gate and the gates will be closed promptly at 8.50am

-Children need to bring their water bottle daily

PE 

- PE Day is a THURSDAY

Your child can come to school in their PE kit on PE days.

  • White plain t-shirt
  • Green/black shorts or joggers/tracksuit bottoms
  • Green/black sweatshirt/hoodie/tracksuit top
  • Trainers
  • Earrings need to be taken out on PE days 
  • No coloured tops/tracksuits/football tops allowed

Forest Schools 

- Children will have a Forest School Session on a FRIDAY. Your child's class teacher will inform you via Dojo when it is their turn for Forest School.

Home Reading:

 - The minimum expectation is that your child reads at home 3 times a week (ideally 5).

 - You can record your child's Home Reading on the Learning with Parents App. You can record their reading of the Fantastic 50 Books, the Collins ebooks or any books they are reading from home.

SUMMER TERM 1 LEARNING

Learning in Key Stage 1(Year 1/2)

LEARNING IN YEAR 1 AND 2

Phonics in KS1 (Year1/2)

Phonics is taught in mixed ability classes following the Little Wandle programme of teaching. There are five lessons per week and levelled phonics reading books will be sent home using Big Cat Collins ebooks. 

At the end of Year 1, children will be assessed on their phonics knowledge, through the ‘phonics screening check’. If any Year 2's who did not pass the check when they were in Year 1, they will get the opportunity to retake the test the following June. Please see the below link for some more guidance in regard to the phonics screening check. 
If you have any questions about this please come in and talk to us, more information will be sent out as we approach the phonics check.
