Remote Learning
At Holly Grove Primary School, we believe children learn best when a child cannot be in school but is still well enough to learn.
When we will provide remote learning
We may offer remote learning in two situations:
1. If the school cannot open safely
This would only happen in exceptional circumstances, such as:
- Severe weather
- A school emergency (e.g. no heating, flooding, staffing shortages)
- Situations where government or local authority guidance tells us not to open
In these rare cases, we will provide short-term remote learning to help children continue their education.
2. If your child cannot attend school but is able to learn
Remote learning may be provided if your child:
- Has a short-term infectious illness and must stay home
- Is recovering from a minor operation
- Has an injury that makes being in school difficult
- Has a short-term plan linked to SEND or mental health needs, as part of a supported reintegration
Remote learning will only be used for short periods and only when your child is well enough to take part.
What remote learning will look like
If your child is learning from home, we will offer:
- Meaningful and age-appropriate learning activities
- Work that follows the same curriculum they would be learning in school
- Feedback from staff (this may be online or through phone calls)
- Printed packs if you cannot access digital devices
- Support for families who need help accessing online resources
Remote learning will not match school hour-for-hour, and we understand families may need flexibility.
Expectations during remote learning
- Your child will still be marked absent on the school register.
- We will keep in contact to check your child is safe and engaging with learning.
- Families should encourage children to complete as much work as they reasonably can.
- Teachers will set achievable tasks and offer support where possible.
Pupils with SEND
We will adapt remote learning for pupils with SEND and work closely with families to make sure the work is accessible. For pupils with EHCPs, we will work with the local authority to ensure needs are met.
How we keep children safe online
We use secure platforms, follow strict safeguarding procedures, and share guidance with parents to help keep children safe when learning online.
Our commitment
We will only use remote learning:
- When absolutely necessary
- For the shortest time possible
- With the aim of supporting your child’s return to school as soon as they are able
If you need help or have concerns during a remote learning period, please contact the school office.
