Author of the Month

Each month we have an author of the month. We share the author with the school at the first whole school assembly of the month.  The children are encouraged to try the books by the author and extend their reading choices.

 Word of the Week

Each week we have a different word of the week for KS1 and KS2. The children are challenged to try to use the word in the correct context within their writing during the week.

Reading Gladiators

Reading Gladiators  is ideal for higher-attaining readers, with a focus on high-level discussion and creative responses to quality texts, promoting sustained and thoughtful reading. We do Gladiators in Year 2/Year 4 and Year 6 throughout the year. The books are chosen from the Reading Gladiators award winning website. Children meet to discuss the books in a relaxed atmosphere and to participate in discussion to enthuse, motivate and provoke thinking.

 Reading Rabbits

Every week we have a "Reading Rabbit" go home with a child from every class. From Nursery to Year 4 they also take home the Reading Rabbits suitcase! In Year 5/6 they take home the Reading Rabbits Ruck sack!

In the bags are a variety of books for the child to share at home with the Rabbit and their families. There are also treats to go along with their reading session. We ask for the child with their parent if needed to write in the journal about which book they liked best! The younger children also have a mask and super hero cape so they can dress up like the Reading Rabbit!
