Year 5 Put Their Forest School Skills to the Test at Beaudesert!

Year 5 enjoyed a fantastic day at Beaudesert Activity Centre, where they had the chance to put all their Forest School knowledge and skills into action in a much larger woodland environment. These are skills the children have been building since Nursery, and it was wonderful to see how confidently they used them.

We started the day with an energetic game of hide and seek, making the most of the huge, safe woodland space. The children loved exploring the area and finding creative hiding spots!

Next, everyone worked on making their own bows and arrows using natural materials collected from the woods. This activity really showcased their problem‑solving skills, perseverance and creativity as they experimented with different materials and supported one another.

The fun continued with team den‑building. Working in groups, the children gathered sticks, branches, and leaves to create sturdy shelters. Their communication, cooperation, and teamwork shone through as they discussed ideas, shared tasks and helped each other.

We even had time to create our own woodland versions of noughts and crosses, using sticks and stones to design game boards and play together.

It was a brilliant day from start to finish. Year 5 demonstrated so many of our Torch values throughout the trip —
tolerance, ownership, respect, cooperation, and happiness.
They supported their peers, took responsibility for their learning, respected the natural environment, worked effectively in teams, and, most importantly, had a great time doing it!

What a memorable adventure — well done, Year 5!
