Year 1 inter-generational reading group
Intergenerational Reading Project with Our Local Community
This month it was Year 1’s turn to represent Holly Grove at our local community centre as part of the intergenerational reading project. The children had a wonderful time sharing stories, talking about their favourite books and chatting with members of the local community.
The atmosphere was full of smiles as the children read aloud with confidence and enjoyed listening to the stories and memories shared by the adults they were paired with. It was a lovely opportunity for both generations to connect, learn from one another and celebrate the joy of reading together.
Our Year 1 pupils showed outstanding Torch Values throughout the visit, particularly in the way they demonstrated respect, cooperation and happiness. They made us incredibly proud with their kindness, enthusiasm and excellent manners.
We were also pleased to welcome Cllr Sue Woodward, who attended on behalf of Burntwood Town Council to support this special project and enjoy the shared reading experience.
These intergenerational sessions continue to be a highlight for both our children and the community, strengthening relationships and encouraging a lifelong love of reading.
