World Book Week 2026
World Book Week 2026 was a fantastic celebration of reading, imagination and community, with a week that was truly jam packed with inspiring activities for children of all ages.
This year, we shared a whole‑school focus text, An Atlas of Imaginary Places, which we enjoyed alongside the other Primitas Primary Academies. This shared approach helped bring our school community together around a love of stories and exploration. Each double year group focused on specific pages from the book, allowing children to immerse themselves in imaginative worlds. In Year 3/4, pupils were fascinated by the Bubblegum Volcano, while Year 1/2 thoroughly enjoyed learning about the Penguins. These sections inspired rich discussions, creative work and purposeful reading across classrooms.
Creativity was on full display during our World Book Day competition, where children designed paper plates inspired by their favourite books or characters. The quality and thought behind the designs were impressive and showed just how passionately our pupils engage with reading.
Friday was a real highlight of the week. Children and staff dressed in colours inspired by the pages of An Atlas of Imaginary Places, while others chose to come to school in their pyjamas, creating a warm, joyful atmosphere throughout the building.
Reading for pleasure sat at the heart of everything we did. Our Year 6 Gladiators took part in peer reading, sharing stories with our Nursery children in the hall and demonstrating both kindness and leadership. We also loved our teacher story sessions, where each member of staff chose a favourite book and children from Reception to Year 6 selected which story they wanted to hear. This was a wonderful opportunity to see our school community connected through a shared love of reading.
The week also included a book swap held in the hall, ensuring every child went home with a different book to enjoy and explore. In addition, all pupils received their free World Book Day book, adding even more excitement and encouraging reading at home.
To finish the week, we held a whole‑school competition to create the best classroom door inspired by a book. The doors were transformed into eye‑catching, imaginative displays that showcased the creativity, teamwork and enthusiasm of both children and staff.
What a brilliant week celebrating reading, creativity and togetherness. World Book Week 2026 was a wonderful reflection of our commitment to nurturing confident, enthusiastic readers who enjoy learning and sharing stories.
