Police Cadets Year 6
Year 6 had an amazing experience with PCSO Deryn who came into school for Police Cadets. She explained what her job entails and even discussed some of the jobs she has been on, they sounded very exciting and quite scary at times! On one of our sessions, we looked at the phonetic alphabet. It was really confusing at first, but Deryn made it fun. We had to think of a 5 letter word and then using police radios we spelt it out using the phonetic alphabet, there were some strange spellings. We then played bingo using the alphabet but by this time we were experts. On another session Deryn bought in items that are used during a forensic investigation. We asked lots of interesting questions that Deryn was able to answer as honest as she could. She even bought in a full forensic suit which a couple of people were able to wear. Deryn then explained how fingerprints work and we were able to take our own using ink pads, it was very messy.
All year 6 thoroughly enjoyed the police cadet sessions and we even had a few children decide on their future careers.
