Nursery Butterflies Winter Habitats

On Monday, the Butterflies had a wonderful time during their Forest School session. We began by talking about how, in winter, some animals go into hibernation to keep themselves warm and safe. This sparked lots of curiosity, so together we decided to create our very own animal habitats.

The children explored the playground with great enthusiasm, searching for natural materials such as sticks, leaves, and moss. Using these special treasures, they worked together to build cosy homes for woodland animals. It was fantastic to see their teamwork, imagination, and problem‑solving skills shining through.

Once our habitats were complete, the children continued their winter learning by working as a team to build their very own igloo! There were lots of smiles as they talked about cold places, snow, and how animals and people keep warm in icy environments.

This activity linked beautifully with several areas of learning:

  • Geography: Exploring different environments, understanding cold climates, and learning about where certain animals live.
  • Forest School: Using natural materials, building structures, developing teamwork, and connecting with nature.
  • Science: Learning about hibernation, seasonal changes, and thinking about how animals adapt to winter weather.

The Butterflies thoroughly enjoyed their winter adventure, and we were so proud of their curiosity, creativity, and collaboration. ⭐️🙂❄️
