❄️ Exploring Mixed Media Through Winter Art! ❄️
Our children have been fully immersed in our Winter theme this week, using their creativity, fine motor skills, and imagination to bring snowy scenes to life!
In our continuous provision, the children began by manipulating playdough, carefully rolling and shaping it into balls to form the snowman’s body and head. This hands‑on activity was a fantastic way to strengthen those important fine motor muscles while also encouraging careful control and coordination.
Next came the exciting part—mixed media!
The children were given a selection of materials to choose from and loved deciding how to give their snowmen personality. Buttons, sticks, beads, fabric scraps and more were used to create eyes, noses, mouths, and arms. Every snowman was wonderfully unique, showcasing the children’s individual creativity and confidence in making choices.
To finish, the children used their communication and language skills to talk about the steps they followed, describing how they made their snowmen from start to end. This reflection helped them build vocabulary and talk proudly about their work.
The results were absolutely delightful—and so was the process!
We’re proud of how confidently the children explored materials, expressed their ideas, and developed key skills through purposeful play.
