A Wonderful Visit From Lichfield District Council… and Orinoco the Womble!
Today we were thrilled to welcome Lichfield District Council into school—along with a very special guest… Orinoco the Womble!
The visit marked the launch of a brand‑new national food waste education campaign, and we were incredibly proud that our school was chosen to help introduce it. Lichfield District Council were the very first in the country to launch this initiative, making the day even more exciting for our pupils.
The council’s Recycling Officers led a lively and interactive workshop where the children learned all about:
- what the new food waste service is,
- why it has been introduced,
- and how recycling food waste helps to protect the environment.
Orinoco helped bring these ideas to life, capturing the children’s attention and encouraging them to think carefully about how small changes can make a big difference.
The session truly inspired the children to become Recycling Heroes! They left eager to share what they had learned with their families and to get everyone involved in the new food waste service at home.
It was a fantastic visit—full of excitement, learning, and enthusiasm. Our pupils engaged brilliantly throughout, asked thoughtful questions, and showed a real commitment to caring for the environment.
What a memorable morning for everyone involved!
