Art
At Holly Grove we aim to maximise the opportunities for every child to succeed, by providing a rich and varied curriculum, that enhances pupil enjoyment and engagement and promotes independence and curiosity.
What is Art?
We believe that art is central to a well- rounded education. Art is carefully integrated into topics in order to enhance children’s enjoyment and enrich the topic.
Children should also have the opportunity to experiment and create within the Art curriculum. This helps to raise self- esteem and allows children the opportunity to express individual feelings and ideas.
Children should have the opportunity to develop particular skills and knowledge across the six aspects of Art and study the work of well- known artists, to include the body of work of famous artists from the past and present.
Aims
The national curriculum for art and design aims to ensure that all pupils:
- produce creative work, exploring their ideas and recording their experiences
- become proficient in drawing, painting, sculpture and other art, craft and design techniques
- evaluate and analyse creative works using the language of art, craft and design
- know about great artists, craft makers and designers, and understand the historical and cultural development of their art forms.

Implementation

Please note: the order of the pathway may be different but all elements will still be covered.
The document below identifies the key elements which we believe are important to incorporate into our Art lessons in order for them to build on previously taught knowledge and also to deepen and secure key concepts.

Our Curriculum in Art
To ensure children are taught and remember the appropriate knowledge and skills relating to Art we have created a whole school progressive breakdown of the national curriculum expectations. This draws on the skills and knowledge being taught across all subject areas.
